How do you expect to progress with gas above $4 and the cost of every day essentials rising, when you are giving your bar away?
Bar Management is critical to your operation remaining active.
Lazy, Lame, Lousy, Loose, Lapse in judgment Managers should be discharged ASAP.
The best, trustworthy, dedicated Bar Managers are not the ones looking for work, but the individuals already employed, that you have to lure away from where they are employed now. A stand out bar manager has to be able to jump behind the bar, serve, mix, mingle, mop up, meet and greet.

I will never forget the Owner of a bar in Sebring, who told me, "Rich , I never made more money on a weeknight in my life, until I did this 'BIKINI BABE" Night for four weeks straight.
But hey, drown in your empty bar, your dead club, it's what you want, it's your own private Should of, Could of, but didn't use common sense Night.

OPENING A TEEN ONLY CLUB, TARGETING 14 TO 18 YEAR OLDS
Now we have the young, excited, full of energy new Owner
of his own Teen club, that he is only going to open one night a
Week.
He has no format planned, he has used radio stations from Clear
Channel for teaser spots, that did not run the spots and served no purpose.
He has no "TEEN FUN" or "TEEN WOW" planned.
He is going to have a DJ, a dance floor, some amusement games,
some billiards tables, and a snack bar.
Wow, I feel like I am in a bowling alley already.
He does not have the insight or foresight to envision the challenges
that he faces.
He is under the impression, that showing a Contingent of Uniformed
Police Officers are going to minimize his potential for problems, but
what he still does "NOT GET", is, what is going to draw these Teens
into this Club week after week?
"Teen Clubs" can be huge money makers, "IF" and that is a big "IF"
every facet from concept, to format, to avenues of revenue to civility,
to Promotions, to marketing, to staffing, to the Parking Area, to the
Zero Tolerance and Strictly Enforced Policies are not just posted by
applied.
One negative situation, one parent who feels their Teen is in an unsafe
environment, one School who advises it's students not to frequent this
Teen Club and you can turn out the lights.
This Owner was a younger version of a know it all club owner.
Regretfully, I do not see this Venture making it.
Oh I tried, but I was speaking to the ego and not the logical.


CATERING TO THE HISPANIC MARKET
Every group of people, every Race, has it's good, it's bad and it's ugly.
The key is to target the quality patrons and cater to them.
To discourage, to ban and to dissuade the creeps, losers and troublemakers
from even thinking about entering your club.
You do not need a club promoter that is of the Race you are reaching out for.
In these slumping and dumping times, why give anyone a share of your revenue?
But, you must offer the brand new Hispanic Majority, nights that they can
embrace and they will make.
Yes they must have proper ID, yes they must be dressed accordingly.
Your format for this night must include music, food, drink, "FUN" and "WOW".
The reason so many bars lose their crowds is because they drop their energy.
Stop being the same format with the same DJ and the same decor and the same drink specials and the same atmosphere every night for and to everyone.
Times have changed, the nucleus of the industry regarding demographics has seen major shift.
Your not reading, learning, listening, all your doing is what you know.
And frankly, it's just not enough anymore.
You might as well just lay your head on your bar and snorezzzzzzzzzzzzzzz




WHEN YOUR BIGGEST NIGHT OF THE WEEK IS YOUR LADIES NIGHT & ALL LADIES DRINKS ARE FREE FROM 10PM TO 1AM, ARE YOU FOR REAL?

I recently discovered a small bar/lounge/sports bar, that holds maybe 150 patrons packed.
Their best night of the week is "Ladies Night" when ladies drink free from 10pm to 1am, with no cover charge, and they are packed with Ladies.
Of course they are.
Any Owner can give his bar away and pack his place.
That's not innovative, it's insane.
There is not a Lady out there who does not know how to have a male patron buy her a drink, why, oh why does a bar have to give women free drinks all night?
I mean where is the mentality.
Now, this is the best night of the week for this establishment.
Their Friday Nights are just ok, their Saturday Nights are awful, their Wednesday Nights are so so with Karaoke.
They do have a stripper pole, but no wonder their ratio of Women is so down.
Can you say Time Warp?
This Owner has been in his bar for 35 years, and do you want to know something it shows...........................
For "Happy Hour," this Owner is bringing back "Free Food."
But, meatballs from Sam's Club" are not going to put :) faces on
his "Happy Hour" patrons.
He is stuck in a Bar Warp.
Located in a Beach side Community, this establishment has not remodeled since 2004, the average life span for an interior is 3 years tops.
This Owner is really diminishing his ability to bring in fresh new faces, let alone women, by offering his area this same stale, predictable, boring
four year old atmosphere.
I asked him what his "Heat of Summer Promotions" were?
He replied "We have none."
He has no "FUN," no "WOW FACTORS."
He has taken no steps, made no effort to capture the pulse of today, instead he lingers by operating in yesterday's thinking.
He is going to rely on his reader board under his sign to attract new faces.
Again, ancient history logic.
When Ego and lack of vision overtakes common sense and the desire, the drive to be the Best of The Best, this Owner should hang up his Shot Glass.
Seriously........................................................................



BAR THEME NIGHTS
How can you not plan, promote, present and produce "Theme Nights," regardless of how big your bar is?
Why does it always have to be a format wound so tight, that slowly, you notice less, then even less and finally almost no one showing up for your nightly concept?
What don't you grasp?
It is so much easier to pack a bar that only holds a 100 patrons but it is much more "FUN" to jam a club that holds 1000 customers.
That's the way I look at it.
I have designed, created, formulated over 30 different Theme Nights that are ideal to generate record nights in bar sales.
The Three words you will not find in my Themes are Drink/Beer Specials.
None. They are not required, they are not essential or relevant to a Theme Night.

MARTINI BARS & TAPAS, ONLY SHAKEN NOT STIRRED
Some friends get together, they plan on opening a "Martini Bar, featuring Tapas" in a location that has been closed down since October of last year.
Live Jazz, Martinis, Tapas, and a great atmosphere.
But that's all the usual format, what else are they going to be?
Featured Martinis will be specially priced on various nights.
The Decor will be trendy yet friendly.
But what will be the "Olive" that attracts the right crowd more then just
for "Happy Hour" and one night a week?
As I have said often, "Jazz Aficionados" are not big drinkers, they are into
The beat, and not the bar.
There will be no cover charge, so the bar will be burdened with the cost of
the band.
The streams of income are very limited, because of the narrow minded
concept, they are going to launch.

CHANGING, TRANSFORMING FROM A RESTAURANT TO A LOUNGE:
In my area a Zagat rated Restaurant with an impeccable reputation, due to food costs, labor and overhead, transformed into a "Buddha Lounge" but they launched their advertising in an Alternative Lifestyle Newspaper, they ran an awful ad, way too convoluted with content and no substance, they offered
no "FUN", no "WOW FACTORS", nothing to attract Women and Spenders but
a Bar, and a DJ, oh and they used the word "Surprises", in these now "SCARY TIMES" in this industry, tell "The Party People", what you have, don't tease them, because they want to know, they don't want to be scammed with what you consider as a highlight, in reality is a low life.
The Manager has been there over seven years but has no clue how to reach out of the fine dining box and into the world of "Night Life".
I am always astounded when an Owner pours way too much money into a concept and then drops the ball on the Marketing, the Promotions Plan, the Advertising, the Nightly Format.
Their Happy Hour is all wrong, why do some Owners want to lose money, and let their ego dictate their establishment, rather than logic and experience?

SPORTS BARS BETTER REALIZE THIS YEAR NFL FOOTBALL SEASON IS NOT GOING TO BE A TOUCHDOWN EVERY WEEK, YOUR LUCKY IF YOUR HAVE A FIELD GOAL.
AS FOOTBALL SEASON FIRST PRESEASON KICKS OFF AND SPORTS BARS PAY FOR THE DIRECT TV PACKAGE, AND SET UP THEIR HDTV'S ALONG WITH THEIR PITCHERS OF BEER, WINGS, AND HOPEFULLY KNOCK OUT
FEMALE SERVERS, THESE OWNERS BETTER BE PREPARED FOR A LONG DRAWN OUT SEASON THAT UNLESS YOU ADD TO IT, ENHANCE IT, EXPAND IT, EXCITE IT, YOUR GOING TO DO 25% TO 50% LESS REVEUNE THAN LAST YEAR.
YOUR GOING TO OFFER MORE DISCOUNTS THAN LAST YEAR.
YOUR GOING TO EXPERIENCE PATRONS NOT STAYING AS LONG AS LAST YEAR.
YOUR GOING TO GO THROUGH THE TYPICAL MOTIONS AND CROSS YOUR FINGERS HOPING YOU MAKE A BUCK.
INSTEAD OF OFFERING "THE FUN" AND "THE WOW FACTORS" TO GIVE YOU THE EDGE OVER OTHER SPORTS BARS IN YOUR AREA, YOUR GOING TO BE ONE OF MANY INSTEAD OF ONE OF A KIND.
SUPERBOWL IS IN TAMPA THIS YEAR, YOUR ENTIRE FOCUS SHOULD BE ON THE BUILD UP TO THE SUN AND THE FUN.
ONE FOOTBALL SEASON I TOOK AN UPSCALE NIGHTCLUB, I MEAN A MILLION DOLLAR PALATIAL PALACE OF A CLUB AND ON SUNDAYS PACKED IT WITH FOOTBALL FANS.
BUT THE DIFFERENCE WAS, MY GAME PLAN WAS ALL ABOUT ENERGY, AND YARDS GAINED MEASURED BY CASH SPENT.
MY QUARTERS WERE ALL ABOUT MAXIMIZING THE CROWD, AND HOLDING THEM.
KEEPING THEM FOR "THE FUN" AND "THE WOW FACTORS" AFTER THE GAMES.
ADDING FROM $2000 TO $3000 IN OVERTIME CASH FLOW.
THE TYPICAL SPORTS BAR SHOWS THE GAMES, SERVES THE PITCHERS OF BEER, BRINGS ON THE HOT WINGS AND WHEN THE GAMES ARE OVER, THEIR BUSINESS IS OVER.
THEY CAN'T SEE BEYOND THE GOAL POSTS.
THERE RATIO OF MEN TO WOMEN IS 10 TO 1 BECAUSE THEY HAVE NO CLUE HOW TO ATTRACT FEMALES FOR FOOTBALL?
BUT, HERE I WAS IN THIS BEAUTIFUL NIGHTCLUB WITH A WATERFALL WALL AND VELVET COUCHES, AND A HUGE DANCE FLOOR, SHOWING FOOTBALL ON OUR FLAT SCREENS, PACKED........................................
SPORTS BARS ARE SO PREDICTABLE, THEY RUN THE SAME GAME PLAN
WEEK IN AND WEEK OUT.
THIS SEASON, MARK MY WORDS, IF YOU DON'T THINK OUT OF THE HUDDLE YOUR GOING TO WIND UP WITH A LOSING SEASON........................................
