 MY TWO MENTORS:
First, My Father, Morty Unger, He was CEO of Ansonia Shoes, then when he sold out, he owned Restaurants, Nightclubs, both in New York City and Fort Lauderdale, he even owned Sunnycroft Ranch Resort in upstate New York.
He showed me firsthand what marketing, promotions, consistency and working nonstop was all about.
My Father was awesome in the business.
He demanded excellence without compromise.
He had me park cars, work spotlights, fill ice binds, wash glasses, put away liquor, wash dishes, work the door,
I learned from "The Best Of The Best".
My Father didn't follow the rules he created them for employees, for management and for ownership.
He knew the "CHARM FACTOR" and wooed his Customers into loyal patrons.
He was the first Club Owner to feature Frank Sinatra Jr. after he was kidnapped.
He was the first Restaurant Operator in Florida to have a four window view of Chefs cooking steaks on the open fire.
He never compromised or copied anyone.

Then there is my Uncle, Mel Haber Owner of the www.inglesideinn.com in Palm Springs as well as Owner of "Melvyns" Restaurant in Palm Springs.
My Uncle is awesome, he knows how to schmooze with the most infamous and world famous from Royalty to Hollywood my Uncle Mel is the "MAN", when it comes to style, class and persona.

He was P DIDDY before there was a Puff Daddy, he was
Randy Gerber, before Cindy even knew his name, he was and is "The Maven".
Without him Palm would not have a Springs.
 
My Father and my Uncle were Club blazing Creators who were masters of the nightclub universe.
My Father in Fort Lauderdale, my Uncle in Palm Springs.
My Father always said "you bring in the Women in and everything else falls into place, but you don't give away the bar to lure them".
My Father opened the first Burlesque Nightclub in Fort Lauderdale, what a place, "THE RED CARPET" packed every night.
My Uncle opened the first real Ultimate Disco in California that also served food, called "Cecil's", jammed every night.
Both always said, you have to be a Visionary and not an ordinary, you either create to generate revenue or you stay the same and lose the game.

The Worse Method To Promote A Night Is Short Lead Time
 I am always shaking my head in disbelief, that Clubs and Bars think a week out, or two weeks out with flyers and a few radio spots, are going to pack their place for an event/
May I ask, "What Are They Thinking".
It also reminds me of so many Nightclubs in Vegas, may I state for the record, right here, right now, LAS VEGAS DOES NOT NEED ANYMORE NIGHTCLUBS.
Attention all Current and Potential Future Club Owners in Vegas, you are in for the roughest ride of your nightclub life.
Sadly, and Tragically every club is not going to survive.
You can proclaim the Biggest Video Wall, the most Sophisticated Sound System, the most Stylish VIP AREA, the
most Phenomenal Light Show, SO WHAT?
How do you expect to draw a crowd with flyers, some radio spots and one week's worth of getting the word and just using some myspace site.
When does it sink it, what your doing is not working?  
 
 
SOME OF THE GREATS JAM TOGETHER
For Those Clubs that long for the days of "Sugarloaf" and their hits like "Green eyed Lady" and "Iron Butterfly" who does not remember "In- A-Gadda- Da- Vida", or "Rare Earth" and "GET READY", "LOSING YOU", "CELEBRATE" and of course "The Fine Young Cannibals",  and "She Drives Me Crazy", well the Lead Members of all of the great Legendary Groups have formed a traveling Live Band called www.classicrockallstars.com and they are "HOT".
Stop booking local boring bands and bring in this SELL OUT IN ADVANCE MONSTERS OF THE HITS to pack your club.
Nobody paid me a penny nor is anyone going to pay me a dime for your booking them, so do because, I said to.

Stop waiting and praying for a heavy at the door attendance.

IN MY OPINION, I THINK THE MARCH NIGHTCLUB & BAR SHOW IN VEGAS IS A TOTAL WASTE OF YOUR TIME.
WHY ARE YOU GOING TO THE LAS VEGAS CLUB SHOW?
WHY ARE YOU GOING TO WASTE MONEY ON AIRFARE, HOTEL, MEALS, ONLY TO DRINK FOR FREE, AND LEARN NOTHING?
THE SEMINARS ARE BORING, WALK THAT EXHIBITION HALL WITH FREE LIQUOR SAMPLES, ( SO WHAT) AND LEARN NOTHING, TAKE AWAY NOTHING. THE SEMINARS DON'T EVEN APPLY TO YOUR ESTABLISHMENT, YOUR AREA OR YOUR CONCEPT AT ALL.
THEY ARE GENERIC IN THEIR PRESENTATIONS. 
YOUR GOING TO SPEND ALL THAT MONEY  AND COME BACK, DISAPPOINTED, DEPRESSED AND DEMORALIZED.
I WILL GIVE YOU ONE PROMOTION THAT WILL GENERATE IN ONE NIGHT ALL THE COSTS YOU INCUR JUST GOING TO VEGAS FOR THIS NO NEW CONCEPTS, NO FRESH FUN, NO
INNOVATIVE STRATEGIES, JUST THE SAME OLD DISAPPOINTMENT.
YOU BEEN THERE, YOU SAT THERE, YOU WALKED THE AISLES, YEAR AFTER YEAR, IT WAS A WAY TO GET AWAY, BUT RIGHT NOW WHAT YOU NEED IS A DIRECTION TO GET AHEAD.
MARCH IS A JAMMED PACKED MONTH OF PREMIER PROMOTIONS WHY LEAVE YOUR BAR, WHY LET YOUR CLUB OPERATE WHILE YOUR GONE, WHY HAVE YOUR SPORTS BAR OPEN WITHOUT YOU THERE, JUST TO GO TO VEGAS AND SPEND, SPEND, SPEND, THEN GOING HOME  WITH NO SOLID CROWD DRAWING CONCEPTS?
WHY NOT JUST CALL ME AND SAVE ALL THAT CASH AND LETS PACK YOUR PLACE WITH "THE FUN" AND "THE WOW FACTORS" ?
 
  Vegas nightlife is in a free fall, too many clubs, way too much money invested in atmosphere, way too reliant on bottle service, and way too much overhead.
What happened in Vegas was so many Nightclub Visionaries used "OPM" to build and create their night life dreams, that between the debt service on the investment and the overhead to operate along with the lack of patrons, add the economic downturn and you have a real potential for "Vegas Clubs in Vacancy Mode".
Despite the snake eyes situation in Vegas, "The Mirage" just unveiled it's new updated and spectacular "Volcano".
When you spend $25million for a "Volcano Makeover", you get a bigger, hotter, louder and thunderous new "Volcano".
The Soundtrack to this spectacle was created by former Grateful Dead Drummer, Mickey Hart.
Stand back, because 120 fireballs flare in a lagoon all around the "Volcano".
NO CHARGE to see this once a hour dusk to dawn, EROTIC ERUPTION.
The problem with this "Volcano" is, hotel rooms in Vegas are at bargain basement rates, they overbuilt, overdid, over killed a great Mecca.
Now they are going to spend $30million on a MUSEUM honoring the MOB GUYS like Bugsy who created Vegas.
Even The FBI is cooperating and participating to insure that their Agency is accurately represented and portrayed.
Bugsy, I mean "BEN" would be proud...................................................................................................................

In Texas, a very nice Hispanic Restaurant Owner, decides to buy a run down, awful reputation Nightclub, having no knowledge of the night life industry, within four months he is on the verge of closing the doors.
After 8 weeks of radio advertising, his Clear Channel Radio Salesperson tells him "It takes time to work".
Nobody, Nobody, Nobody is showing up and partying at his club.
His flyers, his radio spots all are totally ineffective.
Sadly he will be closed by the end of this month................................
He called me to tell me of his plight and that he was broke.
I am The Best at turning around bars, clubs and lounges, but even I can't right side up the "Titanic".
How anyone can jump into this business with no prior hands on experience, no first hand knowledge and no expert consultation, defies common sense.
On New Year's Eve, he booked not one but two bands in this economy, with a $5 cover charge.
Why, Why, Why?
I tried, I pleaded with him to help him, his ego would not allow it.
He is closing by Feb. 1st........................................................................

FACE THE FACTS, YES MONEY IS TIGHT, BUT PEOPLE DO WANT TO PARTY, THEY DO WANT TO ENJOY A DRINK, THEY DO WANT TO MINGLE, MOST ARE SINGLE, THEY DO WANT TO ESCAPE AND ENTER A BAR, A CLUB, A LOUNGE, WHERE LIKE A GREAT MOVIE, THEY ARE TAKEN INTO A WORLD FREE OF TENSION, PRESSURE, PROBLEMS AND CRISIS.
THAT'S YOUR PROBLEM, YOU ARE SERVING THE DRINK, YOU ARE SPINNING THE SONG, YOU ARE SHOWING OFF YOUR LIGHTS AND SOUND, BUT SO WHAT?
AS I HAVE SAID FOR YEARS AND YEARS, WHERE IS YOUR "FUN"? WHERE ARE YOUR "WOW FACTORS"?
I HAVE BEEN IN THIS INDUSTRY FOR OVER 40 YEARS, I HAVE SEEN IT ALL, OFTEN I CANNOT UNDERSTAND WHY OWNERS LIVE IN A BUBBLE, WHY PARTNERS INJECT THEIR SO CALLED IDEAS ONLY TO HAVE THEM FAIL, WHY OTHER OWNERS DESTROY A GREAT ONGOING BAR OR CLUB?
I THINK EGO IS A MAJOR FACTOR, BECAUSE INSTEAD OF REALIZING THERE IS SOMEONE WHO KNOWS MORE THAN YOU DO AND IS FAR MORE IN TUNE WITH WHAT YOUR DOING WRONG AND HOW TO MAKE IT RIGHT, YOU WOULD RATHER FAIL.
