BAR, NIGHTCLUB, SECURE ATMOSPHERE

The Tragedy @ a Movie Theater Complex in Aurora,  Colorado, the Loss of Precious Lives, the Surviving Victims, the Heartbreak, The Physical, The Emotional, The Mental Wounds that everyone is still going through, only brings into focus the need for Bar, Nightclub, Lounge, Sports Bar, Bar & Grilles to address, providing a safe and secure atmosphere/environment.
Now, all my remarks are directly addressed to Owners. Your the One where the buck stops, and your the one who needs to spend the bucks.
To put it bluntly, how safe are your Staff, your Patrons?
What Policies and Precautions do you have in place?
For far too long, you have been "LUCKY" that a serious incident has not happened @ your venue.
You have ignored, denied, not fully understood, nor given the due attention you should have to this very imperative factor of your day/night operating hours.
You have been lax with your dress code, which at night is your first line of defense. When you let a slob in, a loud mouth in line with an attitude individual, you are risking major problems. Regardless of it's a male or female. At the door everyone should be wand down, or walk through a metal detector, and a professionally made sign displayed that reads "We have the right search any Guest and their Pocketbooks". Plain, simple and to the point. This is no time to worry about what anyone says, this is the time to put safety first.
Lately, many confrontations begin in a bar, club, sports bar, restaurant with night life, bar and grille, which then tragically turns violent, often deadly in the parking lot or in front of your establishment.
You have to be more vigilant.
You have to be at your establishment.
You have to be Zero Tolerance.
You have to be no exceptions.
You have to be The Owner.
This not about putting big, burly, bulky guys @ your front door. Quite the opposite. Those kind of "Hosts" should blend in, and be in the background. Your Front Door is your gateway to heaven or hell each night. When your desperate for money, you play the wrong genre of music, you let the wrong crowd in, you let chaos ensue, and you end up on poor terms with local law enforcement.
Worse,  you put everyone at risk. Take every step that I mention and then some, because you never ever want to have any type of tragedy, any shots fired, knifes stabbed, punches hurt anybody @ your establishment. Consider this your "COLD WATER N THE FACE ALERT", to take action, make changes, implement policies NOW. Need help email RichUnger@promotingnightclubs.com

"BAR RESCUE", OFTEN, WAY TOO OFTEN, "BAR BUMMER"

WHY DO BAR OWNERS CONTACT "BAR RESCUE" IF THEY REALLY DO NOT WANT TAFFER TO RAVAGE WHAT THE BAR PRESENTLY IS & CONVERT IT TO A TAFFER TOTALLY TAKEOVER?
I AM TOTALLY BEWILDERED WHY BAR OWNERS ALLOW JON TAFFER TO COME IN, CURSE THEM OUT, YELL THEM OUT, SCREAM THEM OUT, TALK DOWN TO THEM, BLAST THEM, THEN CHANGE THE NAME OF THEIR BAR, CHANGE THEIR MENU, CHANGE THEIR ENTIRE INTERIOR, ONLY TO CHANGE THE NAME BACK, DROP THE FORMAT CHANGE, UNDO
WHAT TAFFER DID?
THERE WAS ONE EPISODE ON A "PIRATE BAR", THE STAFF WERE PIRATES, I MEAN TO THE "T", THE OWNER WAS A FANATICAL PIRATE AFICIONADO.  TAFFER, BLASTED THE STAFF, CHANGED THE ENTIRE BAR FROM WHAT IT WAS TO A "CORPORATE THEME" TO CATER TO THE SURROUNDING OFFICE BUILDING EMPLOYEES.
IT LASTED ONE NIGHT.
THE NEXT DAY, THE OWNER AND HER STAFF TOOK DOWN THE "TAFFER NAMED BAR", FIRST USED A HIGH POWERED RIFLE TO BLOW IT TO BITS, THEN SET IT ON FIRE.
THE INTERIOR WAS GUTTED BACK TO WHAT IT WAS AS WELL.
EVEN THOUGH THE OWNER HAD LOST CLOSE TO A MILLION DOLLARS, SHE WAS MINDSET ON REMAINING PIRATE THROUGH AND THROUGH.
TAFFER SAID IN HIS 35 YEARS, HE NEVER MET SUCH "OBNOXIOUS" AND UNCOOPERATIVE, UNWLLING" STAFF IN HIS LIFE. BUT ALL JON TAFFER HAD TO DO WAS TAKE THE PIRATE THEME, UPDATE IT, UPLIFT IT, AND TWEAK IT TO 2012. THESE PEOPLE WERE LIVING THE LIVES OF PIRATES INSIDE THIS BAR, AND YOU CANNOT SIMPLY COME IN CURSE, CHALLENGE THEIR EGOS, THEIR PRIDE AND TEAR THEM APART.
TAFFER BROUGHT IN A CHEF, A QUALITY BARTENDER, A HOSPITALITY SERVICE TRAINER, AND THE FOUR OF THEM ATTEMPTED TO TURN
LET ME THINK OF A GOOD EXAMPLE, OK..............................THEY ATTEMPTED TO TURN AN ARROWSMITH FANATIC, INTO A  SUSAN BOYLE FAN. IT DID NOT WORK, IT WAS NEVER GOING TO WORK.
ALL THE TAFFER TOUGH TALK " F THIS", "F THAT", DID NOTHING BUT FURTHER DISTANCE THE PIRATE KREWE FROM HIM AND HIS PLANS.
HE HAD NO CHANCE, NONE.
I WOULD OF NEVER RUN THAT EPISODE ON "SPIKE TV".
BUT TAFFER, HIS EGO, HIS ARROGANCE, CHOSE TO HUMILATE BOTH HIMSELF AND HIS CREDABILITY. I WOULD SUGGEST TO MR TAFFER, THAT IN ORDER TO HAVE THE RESPECT, TRUST, AND FAITH OF THOSE OWNERS YOU APPROACH, TRY THE REVERSE OF WHAT YOUR CURRENT ATTITUDE IS. OVERWHELM THEM WITH CONFIDENCE, INTELLECT AND EXPERIENCE, NOT WITH ARROGANCE, PERSONAL ATTACKS AND BERATING OF BOTH OWNERS AND THEIR ESTABLISHMENT.
AS FOR YOU OWNERS, DON'T WAIT FOR SOME STAGED TV SHOW TO COME TO YOUR SO CALLED "RESCUE" CAUSE THE ODDS OF TAFFER PUTTING YOUR BAR ON TV ARE THE SAME AS MEETING GEORGE CLOONEY. AVOID THE TAFFER TERROR, EMAIL RichUnger@promotingnightclubs.com

Hello, I work for a good friend of mine who happens to be one of the best DJS around and I am also friends with the club/bar owners.

Ever since I have been working for my friend at this place I have seen a lot of things that do not make any sense to me. I was wondering what I could say to help my friends? This club/bar is one of the largest ones around. It sits on about 6 acres, one side is a country bar and the other side is a club side 18 to enter 21 to drink. Thanks, Mick

MY RESPONSE: MICK, YOU ARE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE CLUB  POWER CHAIN, YOU HAVE  WAY TOO MANY PEOPLE TO GO THROUGH TO ACCOMPLISH ANYTHING. YOU HAVE NOTHING TO LOSE, TRY AT THE TOP ANYWAY.  DISCUSS WITH THE OWNERS WHAT THEY ARE DOING WRONG. YOU MIGHT WANT TO HAVE THE OWNERS, YOUR SUGGESTION, THAT THEY CONTACT ME DIRECTLY, SO THAT NOTHING I SAY IS LOST IN THE TRANSLATION. OPERATING TWO TOTALLY DIFFERENT CONCEPTS UNDER ONE ROOF, WITH ENTIRELY DIVERSE AGE GROUPS ADDS TO THE CHALLENGES. HAVING A COUNTRY BAR FORMAT ON ONE SIDE, AND AN 18 TO ENTER, 21 TO DRINK CONCEPT ON THE OTHER SIDE, SITTING ON SIX ACRES OF LAND, HAS A VERY POSITIVE UPSIDE, AND A VERY DAUNTING DOWNSIDE. THE LARGER THE CLUB, THE BIGGER THE OBSTACLES. WHILE YOU ARE FRIENDS WITH THOSE IN CONTROL, YOU ARE NOT IN MANAGEMENT, THEREFORE, IT IS BEST TO KEEP YOUR OPINIONS TO YOURSELF. I WOULD RECOMMEND YOU LET THE OWNERS KNOW ABOUT MY SITE, AND PERHAPS FILL OUT THIS FORM http://www.promotingnightclubs.com/contact.htm SO THAT THEY CAN SEE WHAT AN EXPERT OBSERVES FROM THE OUTSIDE LOOKING IN. LETTING IN MINORS POSES MAJOR PROBLEMS, WHEN THE ONLY INCOME YOU DERIVE FROM THEM IS THE COVER CHARGE, AND THEIR MAIN INTENT THE ENTIRE EVENING IS TO OBTAIN AN ILLEGAL DRINK. I CAN TELL YOU FIRST HAND, THAT IF YOUR OWNERS CANNOT ATTRACT ENOUGH 21 AND UP CLUBBERS, THEY ARE FACING MAJOR PROBLEMS. HANG IN THERE MICK, DO THE BEST YOU CAN, BUT AS FOR THE INTERNAL STRIFE, BEST TO JUST IGNORE IT. FRIENDSHIPS HAVE BEEN BROKEN OVER SUCH ISSUES IN THE PAST AND WILL BE IN THE FUTURE. IF IT IS AFFECTING YOUR JOB PERFORMANCE, AND YOUR FRIENDSHIPS, THEN YOU SHOULD CONSIDER QUITTING, SO THAT YOU KEEP YOUR FRIENDS, BUT DON'T HATE YOUR JOB OR THE PLACE YOU WORK. Good news: Food service research giant NPD Group says online reviews, whether glowing or caustic, dont have much of an effect on a restaurants business. What does bring customers in: online deals and offers. No wonder Groupon is mending fences with operators in the wake of this news. I have a formula for implementing an online program that attracts new patrons and generates thousands in fresh new cash flow. Because right now, these are the toughest times of your in the food and beverage life.

HIRING YOUNG OCKTAIL SERVERS IS OK, IF YOU TRAIN THEM,

TOO OFTEN, BARS, LOUNGES, SPORTS BARS, ESPECIALLY "BREASTAURANTS overlook experience as a selling point for Cocktail waitresses. Instead, they flaunt young hires in flashy outfits and promote their servers as sex kittens who can't wait to serve stiff drinks.

But I SAY, without the training, the hands on experience, the oversight, what good does it serve to have great looking, but lacking in service Cocktail waitresses attempting to provide great customer experiences?

First, whatever personal issues they have, stay outside the front door, the moment, they show up for work. The Soap Operas in their lives are not part of their working environment. The gossip, must stop before it begins.

The major challenge today, is to find Cocktail Servers who care. For some reason, this generation of the work force, does not seem to put a priority on their jobs? They want instant gratification.

That is why weekly mandatory meetings are non negotiable. You don't show up, you don't work. You don't show up again,  you fail to attend the next meeting, you have no job.

The Cocktail Server is the connector between the bar and the customer, the service bartender has to be a speed pourer, pour correctly, and pour properly.

The reason many bars, clubs, sports bars, bar and grilles do well, is because of discipline. They have zero tolerance for excuses, laziness, in fighting and lack of regard for the job or the establishment.

When you look over an application of someone applying for a position, you see that they have held job after job at place after place, that is the Red Flag, that they are not team players, not in for the long term, and have "ISSUES" that frankly you don't want to and don't need to deal with.

When you tolerate servers showing up late, doing a lame job, just going through the motions, it is all a reflection on you the Owner and your bar.

A Server who does not keep up her personal appearance, has a low self esteem problem.

A boyfriend who is constantly showing up at her job, has a control freak problem.

A Server who keeps making up excuses for using her cell phone places a priority on her personal life over her job.

Of course emergencies arise, where circumstances prevail, that exclude the rules, but these are far and few, not a daily occurrence.

Yes you can have a soft spot for Servers that have challenges in their lives, but that does not give them carte blanche to abuse the rules.

There are just too many people out of work.

Last month the restaurant and bar industry hired 29,000 employees.

Sexual Harassment should never be tolerated. Not from employers, employees, or customers.

This is a job where you'll overcome your shyness pretty quickly, and if you don't, then the job is not for you.

Cocktail Servers can make a great living, it all depends on them. Their smile, their attitude, their service.

It's really like being on stage you fix up your hair, put on my makeup and  go out on the floor, feeling great about yourself, pretty and sexy.

Whether you know it or not, the servers play an important role generating cash flow, creating image, customer loyalty, and energy for the entire night.

The trend of the young cocktail waitress wearing practically nothing emerged recently, in the past decade. Upscale bars began hiring  "bevertainers," who serve drinks, sing and dance, Resort Bars, followed suit, hiring cocktail "beverage models."

Describing waitresses as models or entertainers allows employers to skirt labor laws and place age and appearance restrictions on the women.

Becoming known for having smoking-hot cocktail waitresses, is fine, if they also are outstanding professional servers.

Owners must be very careful not to violate sexual discrimination and not to create sexual harassment.

Many Hotel Chains with upscale bars, lounges, pool bars, generate such great consistent bar business, that their cocktail workers make the highest base salary in the United States, starting at $9 an hour plus tips, with free health insurance.

The best thing you can hear is, 'I keep coming back because of you,'" said, a cocktail waitress at the same upscale bar since 1984.

Your cocktail servers are your foot soldiers and as such, they are the first to go into beverage battle, so hire smart, hire right. If you don't know how to find, how to train, how to hire the right Cocktail Servers, email RichUnger@promotingnightclubs.com I DO !

FAMILY RUN RESTAURANTS, FAMILY RUN SPORTS BARS, FAMILY RUNS MEANS SOMETIMES FAMILY RUINS.

WHEN A FAMILY IS INVOLVED IN A FOOD AND BEVERAGE BUSINESS, THERE HAS TO BE A CLEAR UNDERSTANDING OF WHO DOES WHAT? WHO DECIDES WHAT? WHO HAS THE AUTHORITY OVER WHAT? WHEN THERE IS A CONFLICT THAT OVERLAPS, TENSION, EMOTIONS, FEELINGS, ALL COME INTO PLAY. CATERING TO A SPORTS FAN, OR SPORTS CUSTOMER WHEN THE GAME IS OVER, IS THE KEY TO DOUBLING, TRIPLING YOUR VOLUME, YOUR REVENUE, YOUR PROFITS. IT'S AN EXTENSION OF THE 10PM AT NIGHT CROWD.

THE NIGHT LIFE IS A TOTALLY STRANGE PART OF A FAMILY RUN RESTAURANT, SPORTS BAR, BAR AND GRILLE.

WHILE YOUR MOTHER AND FATHER MAY KNOW HOW TO PUT OUT A GREAT DISH, THEY HAVE NO COMPREHENSION OF WHAT GOES ON AFTER 10PM. WHEN THEY DO INTERFERE, THE RESULTS ARE DISASTEROUS. FAR TOO MANY FOOD, BEVERAGE AND NIGHT LIFE VENUES LOSE TENS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS NIGHTLY, DUE TO FAMILY INFIGHTING. DON'T LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOUR FAMILY, YOUR BUSINESS.
