PROTECT YOUR BAR FROM STUPIDITY!
 
I am not going to go "TAFFER TERRORIZING" relax. I am not going to curse like a foul mouth person. I am going to tell you straight up, "Protect your BAR from stupidity" meaning, the over spending, the drinking @ the bar, the hitting on bar staff, the giving away of drinks to draw in people, the buying of drinks for people, the letting of bartenders to over pour and drink while working, allowing more than just 1 person to have access to your safe and secure liquor room, the never the same times you clean the registers out of cash during the night,  the failure to write checks that actually clear the bank. In addition to meaning, presenting insightful, powerful Promotions that do not have any drink specials as part of them. Promotions do not mean cheap drinks. STOP THAT THINKING NOW. When your radio rep comes around as usual same day, same time, ask them why the spots are not attracting ppl? Ask them who is listening and when? Ask them why you keep spending money weekly and yet, no crowds, not even a group who heard the spot are coming in. Watch the radio rep throw everything but the truth, nobody is listening who responds to bar, sports bar, lounge, club radio spots, especially thirty second spots. Don't let the radio rep's "Stupidity" continue to cost you cash, you can ill afford to spend.
You are so engulfed in your day to day operation, you have no idea what is happening in our culture, our fashion, our trends, our music, our entertainment. You have too much to worry about and at the end of the day, you hope, you cross your fingers, perhaps you even ask the man upstairs to please pack your place. But your not protecting your bar from "Stupidity", your simply going through the motions. You must be @ your bar, your club, your sports bar, your lounge, your restaurant when the night life happens. Owning a place that serves liquor means the night time @ 10pm is when your cash begins to create. Protect your place from "Stupidity" don't let your staff run rampant without you keeping everyone/everything in CHECK. It's your place.
When I owned the biggest nightclub on the West Coast of Florida with my Partner, we never ever left the place. We were there from 11am till 3am every night. That's right, we were jammed.
We never drank when open , and if we bought a customer a drink now and then, very rarely, we went out and bought a bottle of liquor to add to our inventory to make up for the giveaway. None of our bar staff drank while working or could buy anyone a drink. We ran a tight ship. We were the #1 Club on the West Coast of Florida and we knew it. One Saturday Night, we received a bomb threat, our club was wall to wall with a line outside. The Police were called, they advised us at 11pm to evacuate the club, since the caller said the bomb was going to go off @ midnight. Undercover Police searched everywhere they could within the limitations of not disrupting or panicking patrons. I told the Officer in charge, " There is no bomb in this club and at midnight I will stand on the stage (where the bomb was supposedly placed)  if that bomb goes off I will go with it, but we are not clearing out the club". No bomb ever went off or was found, that was then nowadays, I would clear the club in a NY Minute. My point being, competing clubs were getting hurt so bad by our club, that is what they resorted to. That was "Bar Stupidity" on their part.
I was creating "FUN", and "WOW FACTORS" nobody had then and now even thinks of. My Partner was the hardest working guy I ever had the honor to be partners with. He was the Best. He and I were thisclose. We both had the same vision, when we bought this club, to make it so hot, everyone would drive to be in the "ENERGY". To this very day, I still hold that "Philosophy", it's all a matter of not letting "Bar Stupidity" come anywhere close to you. It is often created by liquor salesmen trying to push another vodka on you. It comes from some ad sales person trying to push you to place in ad in a publication that is going to produce ZERO RESULTS. It comes from you "Panic Promoting", so concerned with other bars, clubs giving away cheap drinks and packing their places, while you sit idle. You don't fight fire with the same fire, you fight it with FLAME THROWERS. Meaning, you OVER TAKE their cheap drinks with what they have no clue how to do. "FUN", "WOW FACTORS", "FAB", it works every time. You know how almost every man to a man sees a beautiful Woman, they always look over the woman's body, and her beauty, but, what they do not look into is what Sinatra always did first, "Looked A Woman In Her Eyes". Over hundreds and hundreds of young ladies modeled for my Fashion Explosions, I always avoided "Bar Stupidity" and never ever hit on, or came on to any of them. Today you have Owners acting like boys going through puberty. There are  methods to every aspect of  this business to avoid "BAR STUPIDITY". I had an Owner that I advised, who had the largest, hottest club in his area, packed four nights a week, he had it all, but not personally, he was a very straight kind of Owner, who "ALMOST" got swept into the dark side, he was jolted one night, and realized his Wife and Children meant more than this business, so he along with me transformed the club into the #1 Mexican Restaurant in the area, and totally remodeled, ripped out every sign of a nightclub.
Now he is happy, in love with his Wife, spends time with his kids, and operates a lunch and dinner operation that totally saved him from "Bar Stupidity". It doesn't stop there, "Bar Stupidity" is booking the same local bands that play everywhere and have no drawing power. Letting your DJ dress like a slob and curse over the microphone.  Opening, Operating a bar, club, bar and grill, sports bar, gay bar, strip club, restaurant with night life requires less ego, less money, and a lot more insight, EXPERTISE, Direction, Guidance, Creativity, Uniqueness, and above all a Vision that makes total sense. Avoid "Bar Stupidity" sure watch "Bar Rescue" and "Taffer Terror", but remember this, unrealistic TV portrayals of this business are not going to help you pack your place, you laugh, you are so glad it's not you on that screen being in the midst of that total "BAR STUPIDITY".  WHY DO YOU THINK DARDEN IS REMAKING BOTH "RED LOBSTER" AND "OLIVE GARDEN"? VERY SIMPLE, SALES ARE SLIPPING, MARKET SHARE IS GOING ELSEWHERE, MENU PRICES ARE WAY TOO HIGH,  HEALTHY DISHES NEEDED TO BE ADDED, SELECTION IS FAR TOO LIMITED. BOTH RESTAURANTS ARE FEELING THE HEAT. SO DARDEN GOES WITH "OLIVE GARDEN" AND THEIR MANTRA " WHEN YOUR HERE YOUR FAMILY" AFTER 14 YEARS TO " GO OLIVE GARDEN", I DIDN'T KNOW WE WERE CHEERING FOR A TEAM? THE FIELD HAS ENLARGED IN THIS SEGMENT, THAT DARDEN WAS CAUGHT OFF GUARD. THE "SUITS" @ DARDEN THOUGHT THEY COULD RIDE ON THEIR OVERPRICED SEAFOOD, FREE BREADSTICKS AND SALAD UNTIL WE LANDED A MAN ON MARS. THAT WAS THEIR THINKING. LOOK @ OUTBACK STEAKHOUSES THEY ARE NOW OPEN FOR LUNCH EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK, WITH A MENU OF ITEMS $10, IN ADDITION TO THEIR REGULAR MENU. THAT IS WHO MUCH THIS IS A "FOOD FIGHT" GOING ON. NOW "OUTBACK" IS OPEN FOR LUNCH ON A DAILY BASIS, YOU KNOW THEY ARE GOING AFTER MARKETSHARE, AFTER FRESH NEW CASH AND BUILDING ON THEIR PATRON BASE. THE MONEY THEY TAKE IN, THE CUSTOMERS THEY DRAW, ARE COMING FROM SOMEWHERE ELSE. THEY ARE NOT NEW BUSINESS, THEY ARE SOMEONE ELSE'S BUSINESS. I ASK YOU TO EMAIL ME, BECAUSE IF YOUR RESTAURANT IS DOING GREAT, THEN DON'T BUT IF YOUR NOT, THEN DO SO, YOU HAVE EVERYTHING TO GAIN!
 
STOP LISTENING TO EVERYONE WHO THINKS THEY KNOW ANYTHING: Your SYSCO Salesman knows his food, they try to expand to teach you how to operate your restaurant. Your Liquor Salesman knows his liquor, he tries to teach you how to run your bar, by buying more variety of brands. Your Beer Salesman tries to teach you that offering duplication of brands both in bottles and on tap makes sense. Your booking agent urges you to spend more on bands than you can afford, your DJ wants to spin music you know does not belong in your place. The club promoter ( demoter) tells you he is the magic man to pack your nites, as long as he gets the cover charge, a guest list, a bar tab, brings in his own staff for the door, as the DJ and you are going to just fill your cash register with sales. Your newspaper or magazine ad salesperson wants you to take a print ad, when NEWSWEEK MAGAZINE, just stopped printing it's Print Edition, because nobody is reading it. The Majority of people read newspapers, free or paid and magazines online NOW. The only major Newspaper charging for all it's content is "THE WALL STREET JOURNAL", are you Gordon Gecko? Then why would you care about reading the "WSJ"? I intentionally do not mention the Radio Salesperson, because YOU HAVE NO BUSINESS BEING ON RADIO, regardless of what they tell you.
 Everyone is a Professor of Packing your Place and your the student. WRONG.
Not one of them knows your bar, your club, your lounge, your strip club, your country music bar, your Gay bar, your beach bar, your sports bar, your restaurant with night life, better, than you do. And if you don't , it's because you are never there, if, you don't care, you should not even own such a business!!!!!
STOP LISTENING TO THE KNOW IT ALLS, WHO ONLY WANT YOU TO BUY MORE, SPEND MORE, CARRY MORE OF THEIR PRODUCT, PLAY THE WRONG MUSIC, GIVE THEM YOUR MONEY.
