MARCH 2014 - NIGHTCLUB & BAR UNTRENDS TO "86" IN 2014
By RichUnger@promotingnightclubs.com

WAS THE "BAR SHOW" WORTH IT?
YOU SPEND ALL THAT MONEY, FLYING TO VEGAS, STAYING AT A HOTEL, EATING AT RESTAURANTS, AND ATTENDING A BAR SHOW.
YOU SIT IN GENERIC SEMINARS.
YOU WALK AN EXHIBITION HALL.
YOU MEET THE CURSING, RANTING, BERATING TV HOST.
BUT WHAT DID YOU TAKE AWAY FROM THIS EXPERIENCE?
YOU FOUND SOME NEW LIQUORS OR BEVERAGE PRODUCTS YOUR GOING TO GIVE A TRY.
YOU SAW SOME ENTERTAINMENT CONCEPTS, YOUR CONSIDERING, BUT YOU HAVE NOT TAKEN ANY ACTION ON USING THESE, BECAUSE YOUR FEAR OF SPENDING AND NOT RECEIVING. THAT'S WHY YOU EMAIL RichUnger@promotingnightclubs.com

SO WE COME TO WHAT ARE THE "NIGHTCLUB & BAR "UNTRENDS" FOR 2014?

1."RADIO ADVERTISING"
NO MORE RADIO ADVERTISING. WHY? BECAUSE THERE IS A TOTAL LACK OF LISTENERS.
UNLESS YOUR ADVERTISING IN MORNING DRIVE ON
HOWARD STERN'S SHOW
RYAN SEACREST'S SHOW
OPIE & ANTHONY'S SHOW
BUBBA THE LOVE SPONGE SHOW
WHICH ARE ALL TOTALLY OUT OF YOUR BUDGET TO BUY, YOU END UP BUYING 15 SECONDS OR 30 SECONDS OF AIR TIME DURING OTHER AIR TIME PERIODS, THAT VERY FEW WOMEN, ARE LISTENING TO.
WOMEN ARE THE KEY TO NIGHT LIFE SUCCESS.
20 YEARS AGO RADIO RULED.
BUT NOW, IT'S NOT EVEN A VIABLE MARKETING POWER.
ASK YOUR RADIO SALESPERSON TO HAND YOU THE LATEST ARBITRON RATINGS BOOK FOR YOUR RADIO
MARKET?
IF THEY MAKE UP EXCUSES, THEN YOU KNOW THERE IS SOMETHING THEY DO NOT WANT YOU TO KNOW.
IF THEY DO HAND YOU THE ACTUAL BOOK, IT BREAKS DOWN, THE SEX, THE AGE, THE TIME THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE WHO DEMOGRAPHICALLY ACTUALLY LISTEN TO WHAT RADIO STATION.
WHY HAS TERRESTERIAL RADIO DIED?
IPODS, IPADS, TABLETS, SMART PHONES, SIRUS/XM SATELLITE RADIO.
EVEN THE LATEST YEAR MODEL CARS ARE INCLUDING SIRUS/XM RADIO ON THE DASHBOARDS.
REVIEW THE MONEY YOU HAVE SPENT ON RADIO AND THE RESULTS YOU HAVE GOTTEN?
I REST MY CASE................................................
THE WORLD IS GOING MOBILE TO EVEN BEING ABLE TO OPEN YOUR HOTEL ROOM DOOR.
THERE ARE MARKETING RESOURCES THAT CREATE FIRST HAND, SEEING IS BELIEVING PATRONS RESPONDING.
RADIO IS NO LONGER ONE OF THEM.

2. "FLYERS"
NO MORE FLYERS OR PARTY PATROLS OR CLUB PROMOTERS. WHY, BECAUSE HANDING OUT FLYERS
IS TOTALLY INEFFECTIVE.
DO YOU ACTUALLY READ FLYERS HANDED TO YOU?
DO YOU ACTUALLY RESPOND TO FLYERS HANDED TO YOU?
I HAD A CLUB OWNER IN THE NORTHEAST HAND OUT 20,00 FLYERS FOR A STRONG SATURDAY NIGHT PROMOTION. HE HIRED THE BEST STREET TEAM ( SUPPOSEDLY) IN HIS AREA. END RESULT: 20 PEOPLE SHOWED UP. HE WAS DEVESTATED, USING FLYERS, IS LIKE WATCHING "BLACK AND WHITE TV", THAT'S HOW OUTDATED FLYERS ARE.
FLYERS NO LONGER HAVE ANY IMPACT.

3. "ALL YOU CAN DRINK NIGHTS", ARE YOU SERIOUS?
WHY WOULD YOU LET PEOPLE IN WHO PAY AT THE DOOR, THEN DRINK FOR FREE ALL NIGHT?
THE NIGHTS OF "SINK OR SWIM" ARE OVAH!
STOP SIMPLY GETTING PEOPLE DRUNK AT YOUR BAR OR CLUB.
WHAT PURPOSE DOES THAT SERVE?
YOUR SERVING ROT GUT LIQUORS THE CHEAPEST AROUND, AND YOU THINK YOUR DOING RIGHT BY YOUR COMMUNITY?
ONLY DESPERATE BARS/CLUBS OFF AUCD NIGHTS.
IT IS A SIGN OF POOR OWNERSHIP/MANAGEMENT.
IT REFLECTS A BAR BEGGING MENTALITY THAT IS QUITE DISTURBING.
WITH SPRING BREAK HERE, WHY NOT PUT THE FOCUS ON WHAT YOUR DOING RATHER THAN HOW LOW YOUR BAR CAN GO IN GIVING AWAY LIQUOR?
"ALL YOU CAN DRINK" IS A FAD THAT FADED AWAY.
IT IS BEYOND BELIEF THAT IGNORANT BAR OWNERS WOULD OFFER SUCH A DANGEROUS AND SOMETIMES DEADLY DRINK DEAL.
LOOK AT THE CONDITION OF THE BAR, OF THE STAFF, WHEN YOU GO INTO A DIVE BAR THAT GIVES AWAY IT'S LIQUOR AND BEER.
IT'S A FAST, EASY WAY TO GO RIGHT OUT OF BUSINESS.
HOW LONG AGO DID I A NIGHTCLUB OWNER OF ONE OF THE HOTTEST CLUBS IN FLORIDA OFFER THIS SILLY DEAL? 1980.
NOW YOU ASK YOURSELF WHY ANY OWNER IN 2014 WOULD SOLICIT IT AGAIN?

4. "LETTING MINORS INTO NIGHTCLUBS, THAT THEY SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED IN.
IN YBOR CITY, TAMPA, A LEGENDARY ENTERTAINMENT MECCA, THE BIGGEST PROBLEMS ARE, WITH MINORS IN NIGHTCLUBS, ON 7TH AVENUE, AFTER THE CLUBS CLOSE, HANGING OUT ON THE STREETS.
ALL THIS PANDOMONIUM IS BECAUSE CLUB OWNERS CRY, THEY NEED THE COVER CHARGE FROM THE MINORS.
EVEN THOUGH THE MINORS ONLY OBJECTIVE, ONCE THEY GET IN THE CLUB IS TO OBTAIN AN ILLEGAL DRINK, THEN SUBJECT THE UNDERAGE FEMALES TO BEING DRUGGED, SEXUALLY ASSUALTED, DRIIVING DRUNK AND BEING IN A TOTAL ENVIROEMENT THAT THEY HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO BUSINESS TO BE IN.
BUT IT'S ALL ABOUT THE GREED OF THE COVER CHARGE, AND NOT THE CONCERN FOR MINORS.
SOME CLUBS GO TO THE EXTENT OF VIOLATING FEDERAL LAW, BY DISCRIMINATING AGAINST UNDER AGE MALES WHO SERVE OUR COUNTRY, DIE FOR THESE CLUB OWNERS FREEDOM, AND ONLY ALLOW UNDERAGE FEMALES IN, TO BE PREY FOR OLDER MALE PATRONS.
IF YOU CAN'T ATTRACT ENOUGH 21 AND UP FEMALES, THEN YOU SHOULD NOT BE IN THIS BUSINESS.
I KNOW HOW TO MAKE TENS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS HOSTING UNDERAGE NIGHTS WITHOUT "HIP HOP CRAP" AND TROUBLEMAKERS.
BUT TO LET UNDERAGE PATRONS IN ON A REGULAR NIGHT, THEY CAN'T DRINK LEGALLY, WHAT DO YOU EXPECT THEM TO DO ALL NIGHT?
THEY ARE THERE TO BE USED, ABUSED AND CONFUSED.
IF YOU NEED THAT UNDERAGE COVER CHARGE THAT DESPERATELY, SELL OUT, GET OUT.
LETTING IN MINORS IN CLUBS IS A SIGN OF BEING UNABLE TO ATTRACT A QUALITY CROWD OF BEAUTIFUL WOMEN AND MEN WHO SPEND.
MINORS ARE MAJOR TROUBLE.

5. "NOT HAVING A CONSISTENT DRESS CODE"
BY ALLOWING ANYONE IN, WEARING ANYTHING THEY WANT, YOU LOSE TOTAL CONTROL OVER MORALS, VALUES, RESPECT, CIVILITY AND BEHAVIOR.
WHY WOULD YOU LET BAGGY PANTS IN?
WHY WOULD YOU LET BASEBALL CAPS IN?
WHY WOULD LET ANY BLING ALL OVER CHEST IN?
WHY WOULD YOU LET ATHLETIC WEAR IN?
WHY WOULD YOU LET TANK TOPS IN?
WHY WOULD YOU LET ANY KIND OF CLOTHING THAT IS A TOTAL NEGATIVE?
IF A CLUBBER WON'T DRESS UP TO IMPRESS AND TO SHOW THEIR OWN PERSONAL REGARD FOR THEMSELVES, WHY WOULD YOU LET THEM IN.
IF YOUR LETTING ANYONE IN, ANY WAY THEY ARE DRESSED, YOU ARE DESPERATE AND ON THE WAY TO TOTAL DESTRUCTION OF YOUR CLUB'S BUSINESS.
WHEN YOU DON'T STICK TO YOUR DRESS CODE, YOU ARE BREAKING YOUR OWN POLICIES, BECAUSE PEOPLE HAVE NO RESPECT FOR YOU, YOUR STAFF, YOUR CLUB.
SO THEY DRESS AS THEY PLEASE, AND YOU LET THEM IN.
THEY CURSE, THEY GROPE, THEY FIGHT, THEY DESTROY YOUR RESTROOMS, THEY ARE THE WORSE TYPE OF CUSTOMER, IT'S NOT ABOUT WHAT RACE OR RELIGION THEY ARE, IT'S ALL ABOUT THE WAY THEY DRESS TO GO OUT AT NIGHT.
NO DRESS CODE IS THE WILD DRESS NIGHTS, WHERE ANYTHING GOES.
TO ALLOW THIS TYPE OF DRESS ANY WAY YOU WANT TYPE ATTITUDE, RESULTS IN NOTHING BUT NEGATIVE REACTIONS, FAR FEWER WOMEN IF ANY FREQUENTING YOUR CLUB.
A DRESS CODE IS NOT A LAW, IT'S THE PRACTICALITY OF TODAY'S NIGHT LIFE.

6. "USING THE WORDS "HIP HOP" IN ANY CONTEXT IN YOUR CLUB"
FORGET EVER USING THE WORDS "HIP HOP" FROM NOW ON.
INSTRUCT YOUR DJ TO LEARN HOW TO INTERACT WITH YOUR PATRONS WITHOUT EVER CURSING. REQUIRE HIM TO DRESS UP NOT DOWN.
INFORM HIM, THAT HE WILL PLAY "POP HOP" FROM NOW ON.
"POP HOP" IS A GENRE OF MUSIC, I CREATED, THAT'S RIGHT, AFTER HEARING ALL THE HORROR STORIES OF "HIP HOP" NIGHTS FROM CLUB OWNERS, THE CRIME, THE DANGER, THE LACK OF SPENDING, THE NO TIPPING, THE BRINGING IN THEIR OWN LIQUOR, THEIR TAKING OVER THE ROOM, BECAUSE THE MUSIC DICTATED THEIR RIGHT TO DO AS THEY PLEASE.
I THOUGHT LONG AND HARD HOW TO CORRECT THIS FROM NO POSITIVES TO ALL ENERGY.
IT'S ALL ABOUT SPINNING, MIXING, SAMPLING, "POP HOP".
THE MAJORITY OF THE MUSIC IS FROM BEYONCE, USHER, DAFT PUNK, PHARREL WILLIAMS AND THE NEW BREED OF BEAT MAKERS, THE TAKE OUT ARE THE HARDCORE, FOUL MOUTH, PUT DOWN OF WOMEN MUSIC THAT HAS NO SENSE, BEING PLAYED IN A HIP CLUB.
DON'T MARKET THOSE WORDS, DON'T SAY THOSE WORDS, DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT THOSE WORDS, THERE IS NO UPSIDE TO "HIP HOP" IN A CLUB, BUT IT'S 100% HIP TO SPIN "POP HOP".

7. REMOVING POTENTIAL TROUBLEMAKERS, DISRESPECTFUL PATRONS, CONFRONTATIONAL CUSTOMERS THE MOMENT THEY SHOW THEIR ATTITUDES
IF YOU SEE AND HEAR AN INDIVIDUAL WITH A LOUD, FOUL MOUTH, WHY WOULD YOU WANT THEM IN YOUR BAR OR CLUB?
IF YOU SEE AN INDIVIDUAL MAKING FEMALES FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE TO THE POINT, THE LADIES ARE LEAVING, WHY WOULD YOU LET THIS PERSON REMAIN IN YOUR BAR OR CLUB?
IF YOU CONSTANTLY HEAR THE "F BOMB" LOUD AND CLEAR, WHY WOULD YOU WANT THIS PERSON IN YOUR BAR OR CLUB?
I WAS AT A TWO LEVEL CLUB, ONE STAIRWAY WITH TWO SIDES, ONE TO GO UP TO THE NEXT LEVEL, ONE TO COME DOWN FROM IT.
THIS INDIVIDUAL KEPT BLOCKING WOMEN FROM GOING UP OR COMING DOWN AT HIS LEISURE.
THE CLUB'S MANAGER ALONG WITH A NUMBER OF CLUB HOSTS, INSTRUCTED THE INDIVIDUAL TO PLEASE SPEAK WITH THEM OUTSIDE.
HE AGREED TO, AND ONCE OUTSIDE, THEY HAD A POLICE OFFICER TRESPASS HIM AND ESCORT HIM OFF THE CLUB'S PROPERTY.
THE LADIES FELT BETTER, THE CLUB'S FLOW OF NIGHT LIFE RAN SMOOTHER AND THE MATTER WAS DEFUSED QUICKLY, QUIETLY AND OUTSIDE, BUT WITH PD RIGHT THERE TO HAND OFF TO.
WHY WAIT, KNOWING SOMEONE IS TICKING INSIDE WITH A LOUD MOUTH, A TEMPER, AND PERHAPS WORSE?
HAVING AN EGO IS FINE, BEING AN EURDITE IS COOL, PLAYING THE ROLE REIGNS, BUT PREVENTING WOMEN FROM GOING ABOUT WITH THEIR FREE WILL?
NO, AND MORE NO.
THE REASON CLUBS AND BARS HAVE THESE PROBLEMS IS , THE PLACE CASH OVER
CARING.
I HAVE TAKEN TOO MANY NEGATIVE CLUBS TO COUNT OVER THE DECADES AND CLEANED HOUSE OF THOSE THAT WERE THE WRONG CUSTOMERS AND TRANSFORMED THE CLUB INTO THE RIGHT PARTY PEOPLE.
YOU NEVER WAIT, NEVER HESITATE. IT'S YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO YOUR STAFF AND YOUR CROWD.

8. "NOT WANDING DOWN OR USING STAND UP METAL DECTORS & SEARCHING PURSES"
THERE IS TOO MUCH VIOLENCE GOING ON BOTH IN CLUBS AND IN PARKING LOTS.
EVER SEE THE MOVIE "HEAT" WITH PACINO AND DENIRO"?
THERE IS A SCENE, WHERE PACINO GOES INTO A LATE NIGHT CLUB, AND NOBODY GETS IN WITHOUT GOING THROUGH THE METAL DETECTORS, NOBODY GETS IN WITHOUT HAVING THEIR PURSES SEARCHED. THE CROWD IS A HIP CROWD, BUT THERE IS NO VIOLENCE, GRANTED THIS WAS A MOVIE, BUT THE CLUB THEY FILMED AT WAS REAL AND THE POLICIES AT THE DOOR WERE EXACTLY AS THEY OPERATED.
THE VIOLENCE THAT SPILLS OUT INTO PARKING LOTS WHERE WEAPONS ARE KEPT IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE, THE MOMENT, YOU HAVE A CONFRONTATION IN YOUR CLUB, "50" SHOULD BE CALLED, AND THE PARTIES SHOULD BE TREPASSED AND TOLD TO LEAVE THE PREMISES AND PROPERTY ESCORTED BY LAW ENFORCEMENT.
IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT, MEET WITH THEM AND WORK WITH THEM.
I JUST HAD A CLUB CONTACT ME, A FIGHT ENSUED INSIDE THE CLUB, IT WENT OUTSIDE, SOMEONE GOT A GUN, SOME INDIVIDUAL GOT SHOT, KILLED.
THE CLUB I ADVISED TO CLOSE AT ONCE.
THIS ALL SHOULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED BY CALLING 911 AND HAVING THE CALVARY COME, THIS SENDS A MESSAGE, THAT THIS CLUB WILL NOT TOLERATE THIS TYPE OF BEHAVIOR, AND THAT LAW ENFORCEMENT WILL BE CALLED. BETTER TO SAVE A LIFE, THEN TO TRAGICALLY LOSE ONE ALL RESULTING FROM A FIGHT THAT BEGAN INSIDE THE CLUB, AND NO ACTION WAS TAKEN, OTHER THAN TO REMOVE THE INDIVIDUALS AND PUT THEM OUTSIDE WHERE ANYTHING GOES.
THIS WAS NOT STREET PARKING, BUT A PARKING LOT, ALL THE MORE REASON, LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT SHOULD OF HANDLED THIS FROM THE MOMENT THEY ARRIVED.
IT SHOWS AN OWNER CARES.
BUT, IF YOU DON'T DO WHAT ARE NUMBERS 1 - 7  OF THIS ARTICLE, THEN YOUR CHANCES OF THESE VIOLENT, SOMETIMES TRAGICALLY, DEADLY INCIDENTS EVEN OCCURING INCREASE BY 99%.
_________________________________________________________/

FOR THOSE WHO DON'T KNOW, "86" IN THE RESTAURANT BUSINESS MEANS "OUT OF IT", AS YOU SHOULD ELIMINATE THESE "UNTRENDS" FROM YOUR BAR OR CLUB.
