With "Spring Break" upon us, from Community Colleges to Universities, 21 and up Students, want to spend, they want to schmooze, they want to dance, they want to party.
Yet, all your bar does is, give and offer cheap Beer. Cheaper Shots, Cheapest Well Drinks.
The Hit Movie about Spring Break years ago was "WHERE THE BOYS ARE", now the opposite is true, but with no Movie, "WHERE THE GIRLS ARE".
This SPRING BREAK appeal to Female College Students, but not by getting them buzzed beyond belief, not by having them drunk, let me have "FUN", give them "THE WOW FACTORS", they want to participate. They want their 15 Minutes of Spring Break Fame, but not in any sleazy or trashy way. Do it with Style.
This "Spring Break", instead of doing the expected and the predictable, empty out all your competing bars, clubs, sports bars, with what? "FUN", "WOW", "FAB". College Students want what they never had before at a bar. I embrace "CREATIVITY", I defy "PREDICTABILITY".
What you want as an Owner is to maximize "ROI", "Return On Investment". You want these College Students, and the next Group and the next Group to spread the word, to "Can't Wait To Get To Your Bar".
Sure you maximize Your Web Site, Face Book, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, do not take any Social Media for granted.
You cannot ignore any Social Media that will reach this demographic.
Don't become a "dive bar" known for just drinking, fighting, and allowing minors in.
Be just the opposite.
For once, stand up and be a Professional.
The more disciplined you are with your format, your staff, your marketing, your operation, the more MONEY you are going to make with the least amount of stress, anxiety and headaches.
Remember "Hooters", "Applebee's", "Chilis" are all in financial trouble.
Times have changed, customers have changed, what has not changed is you and your establishment.
You keep spending $ on radio when Colleges invade your area, yet you rarely if ever see your radio revenue justified.
When do you realize it's time to be ahead of 2018 and not continue to operate as if it's 2011?
I eat, sleep and breathe this industry.
I can walk into a Bar and Grille, a Bar, a Nightclub, a Sports Bar, a Pool Bar, a Hotel Bar, a dive bar, and within five minutes see the mistakes they are making and the missteps they are taking.
Most of the time all of these "OOPS" are due to pure laziness.
Owners in the Beer, Liquor and Food Business are so stubborn and so hard headed, they just don't grasp that change is mandatory. It's a MUST.
Then you have Family Ownership, which causes pure Chaos. Let the "YOUNG" RUN the place.
You were Young once, you felt just as they do.
But times have changed so much, I refuse to allow the use of the words "Hip Hop" in any establishment I advise. I created a genre called "POP HOP", that is far more acceptable, hip and encompasses the optics of a broader base of different categories of music.

They don't want the usual boring, stale predictable way of running a bar, a club, a bar and grille, a sports bar, even a Gentleman's Club.
Speaking of, I was called into a "Gentleman's Club", to tell the Owner what I thought he was missing out on.
First, the DJ sounded like he was selling seats on the "Himalayan Ride" @ the County Fair.
Second, the Dancers wore the same outfits all day and night.
Third, his doormen were dressed way down like they were working farm land.
I have said the following for decades "The key to a successful Spring Break, is having crowds of Women outnumber men 3 or 4 to 1.
Now you ask, "How Do I Do That".
It's so easy.
As Cyndi Layper sings "GIRLS JUST WANNA HAVE FUN". Add to that Katy Perry's first hit song " I KISSED A GIRL", and the rest is HISTORY.
This "Spring Break", OUTSMART", "OUT MARKET", "OUT FORMAT", "OUT FUN", and "OUT WOW", every place that you consider competition.
You Plan now, and you do it promptly, with all your details detected and ready.
Are you prepared to tell fake IDs from real IDs?
Are you prepared to handle all the transactions from College Students who no longer use cash?
Are you prepared to handle all the College Kids who bring pot into your bar?
No not arrest them.
Are you prepared to control what goes on in your Rest Rooms?
Bottom Line, Can you handle all of these challenges all at once?
I can, I have, and with no problem, because I was PREPARED.
I always welcomed "SPRING BREAKERS" on my TERMS, not their's.
They parties by my Policies, not their "ANYTHING GOES" nonsense.
I had Upscale Restaurants want that late nite biz but without the headaches and that is exactly what I gave them.
You have to implement "ZERO TOLERANCE", I always had Beautiful Women on my front doors not UFC Fighters all banged up.
My Music was strictly dance no hip hop, but Rich Unger's Genre, "POP HOP".
We had a logical dress code, that attracted Spenders and Beautiful Women, rather than people who felt whatever they wore all day was fine to wear at nite.
I reviewed four different bars in four different regions of the Country, and their Face Book Page, what I found, to my amazement was, all four were promoting a "UFC FIGHT" that had taken place weeks ago.
You can never ever ignore your social media.
I had a Bar Owner tell me, he is losing money by using a promoter.
I responded, "You do not need a promoter to attract men who spend and beautiful women".
"What you need are "WOW FACTORS".
So many bars are so boring.
So Many Owners losing tens of thousands of dollars, by listening to people who don't have a clue what the bar business is about?

YOU SIT AT YOUR BAR, YOU WONDER WHY YOUR SO SLOW, WHY YOU HAVE THE WRONG CROWD, WHY YOUR SUFFERING?
YOU ARE WASTING YOUR BAR'S LIFE AWAY.

They have to do their job five days a week, and yet, at the same time, they have to depend on others and when they do have time, assume control over their own bar, that they have not hand actual hands on for five days, other than constant phone calls, and popping in.
There is only ONE REASON to own a BAR, CLUB, SPORTS BAR, ULTRA LOUNGE, BAR & GRILLE, GENTLEMAN's CLUB, BEACH BAR, POOL BAR, BOWLING CENTER BOWL, and that is TO MAKE AS MUCH MONEY AS YOU CAN, with the LEAST AMOUNT OF HEADACHES.

NO, your right, not to see the same local bands, that play everywhere. Why should they? My point is, you bring in bands not seen in your area before. "High Energy Dance Bands". You book only those with one or two Female Lead Singers. Stop bringing in Grunge bands in slob wear, stop bringing in Hip Hop Live it is not conducive to being presented in a bar atmosphere. NO it is not.
Back to a "Cover Charge", I can't even imagine taking $800-$900 Cash from my bar to pay for my band.
I paid my Bands $3000 a week and never a penny from the bar. but, my Format did not just rely on the band, I added, enhanced the Night with "FUN" and "WOW". You don't.
You can't deal with NOISE COMPLAINTS from residences that are near you. Reduce your sound output, it's simple.
Stop making major issues out of problems that are all easy to solve. Your challenge is to get off your rear end and solve them.
"LOCALLY SOURCED PRODUCE", WHAT that means is, all the produce you serve is from a local source. Simple enough, but you don't use this marketing to your Restaurant's advantage.

Move some tables and chairs.
Another Restaurant Tip: Hire almost ALL WOMEN to work your Nightlife Adventure.
Another Restaurant Tip: Don't just hire a DJ, also book a band for the same night. That's right, A DJ spins, and the Band Slams that Dance Floor.
Another Restaurant Tip: You don't need a Dance Floor, your Carpet will do just fine.
Stop being so negative about making money in the Food & Beverage Industry.
