SEPTEMBER 2018 - FAR TOO MANY BARS/RESTAURANTS CLOSING!
From Coast to Coast, there is a record number of bars, of restaurants closing down. Some blame the economy, others their location, still others rent, and still others the competition.
From Franchise Operators to Independent Owners, when these locations close, people who live paycheck to paycheck lose their jobs.
My objective has always been to reverse this trend, to show Owners their missteps, to "RE BRAND", "REINVENT", "RENEW", "REFRESH", "RE-SET", these establishments, so that they prosper.
Far too many Owners have no grasp on what they spend vs what their return is?
Far too many Owners are so desperate to do business, they resort to tactics, strategies, that have no basis, make no sense, have no chance of accomplishing what they seek.
On the other side is "REAL SUCCESS".
I watched a "MELLOW MUSHROOM" open, a franchise that features unique pizzas as their mainstay, but also a full service liquor bar. It is a brilliant format.
The place is packed every day and night.
They are doing tremendous business.
They are smokin every other Casual food and beverage location within a mile of them.
Right across the street from "MELLOW MUSHROOM" is a Six Chain very, very, very successful, Local Casual Dining/Sports Bar Chain, Unit. The only upside to this operation is, they have a tremendous outside bar, that with Football Season coming, they will do HUGE NUMBERS.
But, back to "MELLOW MUSHROOM",They have visibility, they have plenty of parking, but they are so busy, some people are parking in areas not meant for customers, and they are having their vehicles towed. Service, Quality, Presentation,all are at the top of their game. Pricing a tad high, but nobody seems to care. Think about all the paths to profits they have.
* I would suggest Delivery be instituted ASAP.
When you are facing such fresh, stiff competition as this, you don't just lay over and wait to close, of course not, you do just the opposite. You re-evaluate your entire operation, format, marketing, branding, image, atmosphere, menu, bar, all of it, and you adapt, apply, adjust to beat them at their brand new game.
My Father always said, "never ever let any other bar beat you". I always used that mantra in all of my actions in this industry.
When a new franchise or new independent is going to open, you always take the thunder out of their Grand Opening.
In Montana I had Owners contact me, when they heard a brand new "Surf Club" was going to open against their two format Concept. They did not want the new competition's parking lot full, they wanted to put a "HURT" on them, so that locals flocked to them rather than the new kid on the block.
I created a powerful Conceptual Strategy, that dominated the entire Community, from every element they had, and those they were missing, they now added.
When this new bar/grille opened, they had half a full parking lot. Because we implemented a in your face, guerrilla marketing plan, we came on strong. We surprised everyone with the "FUN", the "WOW" and the "FAB". The new place didn't have any of these three elements. We WON !!!

Look @ "TOTAL WINES", go into one of their stores, I have a friend who owns a liquor store, he has to think of what he can do, that will draw in customers, because price alone is not the answer in retail liquor sales anymore.
There is also choice. And when it comes to depth of choice in any kind of liquor, wine, beer, cigars, accessories, snacks, "Total Wine" is The King of The Industry!
They have tweaked the retail liquor business to a fine, very well run Chain, that has it all, sells it all, and has a staff that is on their game at all times.
Their Rewards program gives you back "CASH TO SPEND @ THEIR STORES" right off your phone or computer.
No nonsense, No fine print, No missteps.
Every industry has opportunities and pitfalls.
The problems are, you are falling into way too many pits, and not finding enough opportunities.
Instead of the constant "Adversity" you face, why not see some real "SUCCESS"?
You need to constantly make an impact, and stop crashing and burning.
I embrace the challenges of operating a bar, restaurant, sports bar, gentleman's club, liquor store, lounge, beach bar, you name it, I welcome the OBSTACLES.
Because, my only objective is to do more business, show more of a profit and be far more consistent with "FUN", "WOW" & "FAB" than any other competitor in your area!!!!
If you refuse to spend money to make money you need to reverse that way of living and come up with a new Mantra, you "REFUZE TO LUZE".
