Club Promoters, Why Pay Someone To Pack YOUR CLUB?

So your a Club Owner and you have a "dead" weeknight, your
plan.........hire a Club Promoter, give him the door ($5 a person) you pay
for the DJ and the Live Performance the DJ brings along with him (some 3
piece off the wall Trio your Patrons can't dance to) and you give away
Draft Beer for $2 a clip and Bottled Beer for $3, I have a simple
question, how on earth are you going to make any money with this kind of
arrangement?
Oh, did I mention, you also give the Promoter $245 to have flyers
made, that he is handing out. Again, I ask, how are you going to
make any money? I recently heard of a Club Owner who did exactly
this, and 100 patrons showed up. Only 35 paid, because the ego
driven arrogant club promoter had a VIP LIST. I mean it's only $5 to
get in, who the heck is a VIP that can't afford to pay $5?
What is up with this flawed mentality? So the basic premise is,
the stronger the night builds, the more the Club Promoter will make, and
the Club Owner will pour more liquor and beer. I got it now!
But what I don't get is WHY? On the first Night, Some patrons, it
was later discovered, brought their own small bottles of Canadian Mist in
with them. My point is, Why would any "sane" Club Owner
let a Club Promoter keep his door and yet obligate themselves to pay for
the entertainment, and reduce drink prices and expect to make any money?
This truly defies logic. If you can't create Week Nights that
pack them in, then your not in the right biz. If you can't present
and market your club where you don't have to give away constant drink
specials to bring patrons in, why are you even in this biz?
The key to this night by night challenge is consistency, you can't
simply try one concept, then abandon it and try another, then toss
that one aside and try another, you confuse your patron base, you confuse
the clubber, and you have no foundation of which to build on.
It's like Club Owners who cram night after night into a single radio
spot and then expect the listener to understand the promotions for each
night as the Radio Spot zooms along to it's conclusion.
What kind of madness goes thru the heads of these Owners.
Remember, for the 10000000th time, Clear Channel just posted a
$71Milllion Quarter, they don't care about your club, their policy towards
distancing spots or respecting your club are notorious. They have
one interest, let me see if I can convey it in very simple terms "
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$". Back to Club Promoters, why can't a club owner
realize and implement promotions on a consistent basis that don't require
a Club Promoter?
I mean I read where one club presented "Midget Tossing"
sanctioned by the Midget Tossing Federation, of course only one Midget can
toss another, and the club packed the house. I mean have we
gotten to the level in this industry, where the old throw the midget on to
the Velcro wall scenario is now the new WWE and that is what
clubbers want to watch?
Oh BTW, it's now an annual event at this one club. So much for
cutting edge and fast foreword promotions.
Sometimes, I have to smack myself to understand why clubs do what they
do.
I mean, the amount of sheer arrogance and ego in this biz is bigger
than JLO's tuchus.
So many Club Owners call me saying " I have all the lights,
lasers, sound, video, and I am dead", yes you do, but what you don't
have is "THE FUN".
I repeat my Mantra over and over !
