EVEN MORE FRUSTRATED:

Hi Rich:
Just wanted to write you and tell you how crazy it is that I am living exactly what you write about on your Site.
I work @ a club that is a prime example of a "Struggling Club." It's almost like you are talking about MY club. I am that guy you talked about... the guy who cares more about the place than the actual owner. I bust my ass to make the place work and I get so frustrated when "Thugs get let in the door" or the owner gives away the house. Its going downhill fast, and I come in like 2 hrs early to make the place look nicer, hang new lights, I even spend alot of my own $$ trying to help.
I end up bit***** to my girlfriend for 2 hrs after I get off about why am I the only one who cares and only one who understands. Its like I wish there was 5 of me to do every position. The DJs are so bad and the door people don't care. Its getting so ghetto. I mention it to the owner everytime, and he acts like he's gunna do something about it... but never does it. I would fire these people in a F***** HEARTBEAT!! Excuse my language... =) I feel like he's just settling for all the bull****, when it could be so much better. I talked him into giving me and another buddy of mine free reign of Wed night, which no one shows up to, and I am promoting the s*** outta it myself. I am even stepping out from behind the bar to DJ because I feel like no one else can do it the "right" way. I've got my own people doing every aspect of the night, and I want to show him, what the place could be. I'm gunna make it really interactive and fun. I've got a great MC. I'm just a lil worried that the rep of the other nights is going to un-attract the people I want. I've went out the last 2 weeks to talk to my target customers and talked and let them know it will NOT be trashy at all... Well, I just wanted to ramble for a little bit. And tell you I love your articles... I'm actually going to print a couple out and put it on the owners desk. Hopefully he
wont get offended!! =)
Thanks! John Cutter

FRANKLY DUMB:

Then after this e-mail, I received a phone call from a brand new club owner in North Dakota, he has no idea what to promote, how to promote, when to promote or where to promote, he is opening up a big club, the only nightclub of it's kind in his city and he and his partners who maintain other businesses, have absolutely no clue what to do.
This is why clubs fail their first year.

This is why Owners burn through cash and then wonder where it went and why it didn't work?
This is why patrons get impatient and disappointed, because, all he wants to offer are drink specials, a DJ, and adults upstairs, minors downstairs.
It truly defies logic, if your the only nightclub in your town, don't you think you can draw enough legal age patrons to fill up both downstairs and upstairs if you only hold 400 people
all told?
Why would you want minors in a brand new club?
These Partners were more concerned with their Contractor, than what their concept was and if it was practical?
I don't think they will last a Year in this industry, they have no grounding, none.
They think they are going to throw a fistful of money at this building, then open and own their Community.................................and then they woke up.

LAWSUIT:

Then a US Dept. of Justice, Civil Rights Division Attorney, contacted me about advising them on a case they have filed against a Nightclub for Civil Rights violations regarding the door Policy at this club.
I will not name the Club, nor the City the Club is located in, for confidentiality reasons.
But The DOJ Atty. wanted me to advise him, inform him, educate him on door policies, and to write an extensive REPORT on how Clubs formulate their door policy to avoid any violation of a person's civil rights.
It is ironic to note that a US ATTY. in the Civil Rights Division of the DOJ, files a lawsuit against a nightclub for their Door Policy and then seeks advice and insight on exactly
how a Door Policy is created, why it is invoked and what it consists of?
No wonder Scooter Libby has not gone to trial yet.
It will be a miracle if he is convicted.
Anyway, No Problem for me, I have been advising clubs on implementation of their Door Policy, regardless of race, religion or ethnicity how to clean out and keep out the trash and bring in the class for two decades and then some.
It's not about a Clubber's Color, Race, Religion or being, it's about their attitude, demeanor and other facets of the policy I advise clubs to impose.

FED UP:

Clubs and Club Owners have a major problem with the keyword "CONSISTENCY," they have no idea what the word means or how to follow a guideline and policy without deviation.

This next tidbit, will have you rolling on the Floor, a former Upscale Nightclub Owner, who chased away all his patrons, because of his attitude, ended up closing down, then he decides to find a new investor and convert this beautiful Club only 2 years old, into a Sports Bar.
Now he paints the entire outside building Black and White Stripes, because that signifies officials in a football game.
The building looks awful, just hideous, I mean I thought it was a zebra in heat.
What I would have suggested is, to paint murals on the outside of the building to signify to potential patrons what the building is, and what the format of this operation is.
Such as murals of a Football Player running the ball, a Baseball player swinging his bat, a Basketball Player slam dunking, a Golfer teeing off, all action sports characters, but noooooooo, this ego driven lunatic, i am sure with someone else's money, is creating the ugliest, most disappointing visual from a Highway that tens of thousands of cars pass his venue every single day without having any idea what it is?
The name alone is hideous.
When I asked him why he didn't want to have the "Murals" he replied "I didn't want to spend the money"...( UNREAL)
I can't wait to look inside and see what he did to the walls, and interior.
This is what happens when someone has only an idea but has no expertise, no knowledge and no direction.
I hear from Sports Bar after Sports Bar who cannot survive off draft beer, pitchers of beer, and wings and sandwiches.
They cannot wait for "THE BIG GAME" to overcome slow day after slow night.
And to open this Sports Whatever it is, this time of Year, with no significant "MUST SEE GAMES" is insane in the brain.
When I suggested "THE FUN" and "THE WOW FACTORS" to this Owner he said "Oh no, Nightclubs can't make it in this Town".
How wrong he is.
What cannot and what will not survive is a total 100% Sports Bar that has nothing to offer, but some pool tables, 24 TVs, and wood, and more wood, and wood and did I say more wood? ( I finally got to take a look inside)
The Patio is in the back of the establishment, in order to meet the smoking criteria, patrons are going to have to sit behind a building and look at a parking lot, to puff away.
A main factor against this establishment succeeding is, this "Sports Whatever" is not going to make it relying solely on Sports, because the Community it is located in, has no Professional Sports Teams of any kind.
I certainly hope this arrogant Owner makes it, but sadly based on his mentality and his lack of grasping how important Promotions are to packing a Sports Bar, I give him a year tops before he strikes out.

MORE FED UP:

Why do so many Club Owners give So called Club Promoters, who in reality have no experience, no track record, no following and no hands on experience, the opportunity to promote a night at their club?
I mean what are these OWNERS thinking?
Can some of you e-mail me please????????????
Why because these Owners are so desperate, so lost, they have nothing to lose, by giving some young person the power to attempt to portray themselves as a Promoter when in reality, they should never be given any such arrangement.
If you cannot promote EVENTS at your own Club why are you even in this business?

Here it is June, and the kick off Weekend to Summer, Memorial Day Weekend has just passed, what did your Club do to launch the Summer Strategy?
What did your outside deck, your Tiki Bar, your Patio offer to lure in current and fresh patrons?
I sound arrogant, and I sound egotistical and you want to know why, Because I know what
it takes to pack clubs, pack lounges, pack sports bars, pack outside areas without giving away a single drink and even charging a cover charge during the week for Premier Promotions.
Call it my Start of Summer "RANT".
Now you can either sweat it out this Summer, or you can cool off with cash flow galore and
packing in patrons?

As always, the choice is yours, pick up the phone call me I work seven days a week, 941-921-7027 or e-mail me, RichUnger@promotingnightclubs.com

Or just sweat, steam and suffer.
Don't say I didn't try to motivate you?
